We’ve been reading all the latest interior design magazines and talking with designers to find out what’s going to be trending in 2023. Check out what they have to say and discover the Posterjack products that will help you style your home accordingly!
1. Choosing Sustainable Products
[A look inside our Toronto Print Shop.]
You’d probably be hard-pressed to find a designer who doesn’t think sustainable design is going to be huge in 2023. More and more, consumers are taking the time to research where their products are coming from, how they’re made, and the materials they’re made from. In a Veranda Magazine article, Susan Hayward, an award-winning interior designer and founder of Susan Hayward Interiors, says, “People are going to begin investing more in quality products that will stand the test of time. Rather than buying something cheap to get the look at the moment, people will be more selective about what they put in their home in order to have it for years to come.”
If you’ve just discovered Posterjack, we’re an online photo printing company that makes everything in-house for complete quality control. We're a small Canadian-owned business which employees over 20 amazing people. Our workshop is located in Toronto.
We use UL GREENGUARD Gold-certified HP inks that have a fade-resistant rating of 200+ years. We believe that whenever possible, supporting local businesses and choosing environmentally responsible products are always the best options. Our Wood Prints, for example, are made using only the finest Canadian birchwood, which is a certified renewable resource grown specifically to be harvested. This means we are never harming old growth forests. Likewise, with our Canvas Prints, we use canvas that is whitened using an environmentally-safe process, as well as non-toxic inks. Further to this, we make our frames from select Canadian basswood that comes from renewable sources. All of our products are built to last a lifetime.

2. Mixing Wood Tones
[Mixing wood tones and textures can add warmth to a space.]
Styling rooms with decor and furniture using light-coloured wood has been hugely popular for some time now but decorating with nothing but may be a thing of the past. In a recent Forbes article, Audrey Scheck, founder of design firm Audrey Scheck Design, predicts that in 2023 we will start seeing more mixed and darker tones, “We love mixing wood tones in our design plans, and we are noticing more and more clients leaning into deeper wood variations than ever before. Mixing wood tones may seem intimidating, but it’s actually one of the easiest ways to create a space that feels intentional and collected. Only using one wood tone throughout your home can make the space feel more sterile and less inviting.”
Mixing wood tones and incorporating darker woods into your space is easy with Posterjack. We offer several photo art products ranging in styles and colours. Our Framed Prints, for example, come in seven different framing styles—from rustic barnwood frames to modern lacquer frames to classic gallery frames—and in various wood and stain options.
If you’re looking to add some style to your desk, shelf, mantle, or coffee table, our Woodstand Prints are another great option. You can display your favourite photo or artwork in a beautiful hand-cut and sanded solid maple wood block.
3. Decorating with Magenta
[Adding bold colours to a space with art is great for those who don't want to commit to any major design changes.]
Designers worldwide turn to Pantone for inspiration on colour trends, so it's very likely we're going to see the 2023 Colour of the Year, Viva Magenta 18-750, being incorporated into interior styling this year. The Pantone Color Institute says this colour vibrates with vim and vigour. "It is a shade rooted in nature descending from the red family and expressive of a new signal of strength. Viva Magenta is brave and fearless, a pulsating colour whose exuberance promotes a joyous and optimistic celebration, writing a new narrative."
But how do you include such a bold colour in your space? If you're not daring enough to paint the walls this vibrant colour or you don't feel a magenta couch suits your decor style, you can still add pops of the trending colour to your space without committing to a room full of it. An easy way to do this with photography and art prints. You can find the perfect digital download from Etsy (or from several other Etsy alternatives) that includes the colour, and then have Posterjack turn it into art for your room. If you have a photo you’d like to print, you can also edit the colours within the image to include the Colour of the Year.
If you do decide to include this colour trend in your interior design, to further assist you with your decorating, Pantone has put together a colour palette, called the Magentaverse, of complementary colours that work well with Viva Magenta. They are:
- Pale Dogwood 13-1404
- Gray Sand 13-1010
- Gray Lilac 13-3804
- Pale Khaki 15-1216
- Fields of Rye 15-1115
- Agate Gray 15-6307
- Plein Air 13-4111

4. Going Gold
[These Gorgeous Gold Metallic Frames are a perfect way to hop on this interior design trend.]
Another interior design colour trend for 2023 is gold. Tenille Theron, writer for interior design company, Decorilla, says, “The warm but gentle gold will introduce a more organic version of sparkly metallics. It’s inspired by the richness of a golden hue as well as the groundedness of the sometimes sandy tone. Moreover, it resembles a desert’s beautiful landscapes at sunset. As such, it will fit any desert-modern aesthetic. It’ll also be a welcome alternative for, and complement to, traditional neutrals.”
Posterjack's Gorgeous Gold Metallic Frames will add a sense of style and sophistication to any room they're displayed in. The imported moulding from Italy has an amazing hand-rubbed finish that creates a surface with interest and depth. As with all of our Framed Print styles, our Metallic Frames are made using acid-free matboard and framer’s acrylic glass. Photos are printed using the giclee method, using original HP Vivera inks and our proprietary printing software, so images are vibrant, crisp, and rated to be fade-resistant for over 200 years.
5. Including Curves
[Incorporating curves in your space can be done with furniture or artwork, like this watercolour Framed Print displayed here.]
Many designers are predicting that in 2023 we’re going to see fewer spaces designed with straight lines and sharp corners, and more interiors incorporating curves, arches, and rounded corners. Curves can suggest gracefulness, sensuality, and balance, as well as add a sense of dimension to the space. If you’re not ready or willing to renovate your home to make architectural changes, like arched doorways or curved walls, and you don’t want to invest in new furniture, another way you can hop on this trend is by hanging art that features strong curves. Ideas of photographs that can help you achieve this look include those with paths or rivers, as well as close-up of objects like the body of a guitar or the natural curves of the human body. There are several great examples in our blog post, Using Leading Lines in Photography.
6. Adding Personality & Character
[Add character to your space by including personal touches like framed photos.]
It probably goes without saying, we are 100% on board with any interior design trend that includes adding personalized, custom art to a home! New York City-based architectural and interior designer, David Frazier, tells Veranda Magazine that "many of his clients are shifting away from neutral, Pinterest-perfect rooms and opting instead for cozier spaces that feature personal collections, layered textiles, unique art, and a mix of old and new furnishings. He says, 'We have seen so much minimalism over the last few years; our clients are now craving warmth, depth, and character in their personal spaces.'”
Posterjack offers endless ways to add that personal touch to your space. From designer-approved Gallery Boxes and gorgeous linen-covered Layflat Photo Books to eye-popping Acrylic Prints and vibrant HD Metal Prints, you can have us turn your favourite photos into custom art that will fit perfectly in your home or office. Another hot trend we’re seeing a lot more of is customers getting digital downloads to have us print for them. It’s just one more way to add character and personality to your space!
7. Generic Art Prints Are Out, Gallery Walls Are In
[Gallery walls are a fantastic way to personalize your space and make it feel like home.]
Savannah Sher, writer for Bob Vila, predicts that we will start to see more spaces decorated with gallery walls. "While some may still prefer sparse spaces in 2023, maximalism is definitely in. There’s no better addition to a maximalist room than a perfectly curated gallery wall to display art, photos, and personal mementos." She adds, "Generic art prints are falling out of style, and it’s much more on-trend to fill a gallery wall with meaningful pieces that show off your taste and personality. Tie it all together by using frames in a similar shape or finish.”
We’re huge fans of gallery walls! One of the great things about gallery walls are their versatility; you can create a beautiful display using just a couple of photos or several, filling your space perfectly simply by choosing the right print size. And by printing on different mediums—be it canvas, metal, or even wood—gallery walls can also be easily adapted to suit any decor style. They’re also great because they can be designed for any space in your home, from the smallest of bedrooms to the largest of living rooms. Gallery walls are also fantastic for those spaces which can be awkward to decorate, like staircases or hallways. 8. High-Gloss Finishes
[A Posterjack Lacquer Framed Prints is super high-gloss and a beautiful way to style any space.]
The last interior design trend prediction on our list is we’re going to see more high-gloss finishes when styling spaces. In a recent Good Housekeeping article, Dan Mazzarini, Principal and Creative Director for BHDM Design, says, “Instead of matte wood finishes, there will be more high-gloss wood that brings a polished look and feel to the home.”
There is nothing more perfect to fit this trend than a Posterjack Lacquer Frame. Italian designers have carefully created this high-gloss moulding to be at the pinnacle of modern design. Available in Liquid Black and Dazzling White, they are absolutely stunning. Just like the finish on a grand piano, our Lacquer Frames are super polished and ultra smooth. No matter where you hang them, they will make a stylish statement.
Three more Posterjack products that are high-gloss include the HD Metal Print, the Acrylic Print, and, from our desk decor line of products, the Acrylic Block.
