How Metallic Pearl Prints Are Made (And Why That Matters)

Metallic Pearl Print of Dog Photo

Metallic Pearl Prints are designed to stand out. The glossy, pearlescent finish deepens colours, brightens highlights, and creates a subtle sense of depth as light moves across the surface.

But that distinctive look is not just about the paper. The materials, inks, and printing process all play an important role in how metallic photo prints achieve their bold finish and long-lasting quality.

At Posterjack, every Metallic Pearl Print is made in house using premium photo paper, archival inks, and specialized equipment. Here is a closer look at what metallic paper is and how these prints are made.

Check out the video at the end to see these prints up close!

What Is Metallic Pearl Paper?

Metallic pearl paper is a specialty photo paper with a pearlescent, high gloss finish. We use 260 GSM Moab Slickrock Metallic Pearl photo paper, which is known for duplicating the look of classic darkroom papers that photographers have loved for years.

What makes metallic prints stand out is the way light interacts with the surface. As you move past the print, highlights shimmer slightly and colours appear deeper and more dynamic. It adds dimension without adding texture. The surface is smooth, but the visual impact feels almost three dimensional.

If you are looking for a bold print that gleams as the light moves across it, Metallic Pearl Prints are a strong choice. If you want something soft and understated, this probably is not it. And that is the point.

How Metallic Pearl Prints Are Made at Posterjack

Making Metallic Pearl Prints in Toronto, Ontario, Canada

Every Metallic Pearl Print is made in-house in Toronto by skilled craftspeople using specialized equipment. We control the entire process, which means quality is never left to chance.

First, your image is printed onto Moab Slickrock Metallic paper using the giclée method. Giclée is a high-end inkjet printing process that creates a continuous tone look. Instead of visible dots or banding, you get smooth transitions and rich detail.

We use original Epson Ultrachrome Pro 12 colour inks, which are water based and non toxic. These inks produce a wide colour gamut, meaning your metallic photos can display more vibrant and accurate colours. The results on black and white images are especially impressive, with deep blacks and luminous highlights.

Our proprietary Posterjack printing software ensures crisp detail even at large scale. With 54 available sizes, from a small 5x7 to a dramatic 40x120 panoramic, sharpness matters.

Once printed, your Metallic Pearl Print is cut using a Zund digital cutting machine. This creates perfectly straight edges and accurate sizing every time. No rough trims. No guesswork.

After cutting, each print goes through final quality control. Only once it passes inspection is it carefully packaged in a protective tube for its trip to your home.

Production takes one to three business days. From there, shipping time depends on the service you choose and your distance from our Toronto facility.

Why the Process Matters

Metallic Pearl Prints are only as good as the materials and technology behind them.

Moab Slickrock Metallic Pearl paper is a premium stock designed for dynamic results. Paired with Epson Ultrachrome Pro inks, you get vibrant colours and excellent longevity. These prints are rated for 200 plus years of fade resistance under proper display conditions. That means your metallic photos are not just eye catching today, they are built to last.

We also print on FSC certified photo paper using water based inks, making this an eco-friendly choice. High impact does not have to mean high environmental cost.

Because the inks sit on top of the print receptive coating, these are our most durable photo paper. You can handle it with bare hands. Just keep in mind that on dark or solid colour areas, some transfer of finger oils may show. A little care goes a long way.

How to Hang and Display Metallic Pearl Prints

All of our Metallic Pearl Prints are sold as print only, giving you flexibility. However, during customization, you have the option to add a frame so your print will be ready to hang as soon as you receive it.

If you prefer to frame it yourself, you can use a poster hanger, tape, or tacks depending on the look you are going for. The glossy, pearlescent finish works beautifully in modern spaces, offices, and anywhere you want a statement piece.

Will Metallic Pearl Prints Become a Customer Favourite?

We think so. Confidently.

Metallic paper offers something different. It is not trying to look like a standard print. It is designed to amplify colour, add depth, and create a subtle gleam that changes as you move around it.

For travel photography, cityscapes, night scenes, automotive shots, and high contrast black and white images, Metallic Pearl Prints can feel almost electric. Even everyday moments take on a little extra drama.

If you want a print that plays with light and makes people take a second look, these prints deliver. And with 54 sizes available, fast production, and our simple promise to remake your order for free if you are not happy, there is very little risk in trying something new.

Some products quietly join the lineup. Others make an entrance. Metallic Pearl Prints are definitely the second kind.

We cannot wait to see what you print on metallic paper!
